The call for PhD projects is now closed. This is an annual call in February each year. The last set of guidelines and application form are available here for reference
Overview
The UQ-Exeter Institute joint PhD program aims to recruit the very best doctoral candidates, to work across The University of Queensland (UQ) and the University of Exeter (Exeter).
Building on a platform of active collaboration and academic exchange, we are building capacity and jointly investing in enhancing the opportunities for our researchers to work together.
We are seeking research project proposals from sets of UQ/Exeter researchers who can demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively. Where you are acting as the host supervisor, you should be prepared to support the candidate’s needs in terms of space, computing and general resources.
In 2026, project proposals are being sought in the following research themes:
- Healthy Living – Advancing global health and wellbeing through transformative research.
- Global Environmental Futures – Creating solutions for a sustainable, thriving planet.
- Digital Worlds and Disruptive Technologies – Shaping the digital future through interdisciplinary insight.
- Mineral Security and Sustainability – Powering sustainable development through responsible resource innovation.
Selection process
In selecting projects to advertise, our primary concerns will be the strength of proposal and the likelihood of attracting the highest calibre of students. With a view to managing the overall shape and impact of the UQ-Exeter Institute partnership, we will also consider balance between the 4 themes, range of supervisory involvement, and the development of new areas of collaboration.
You can contact the relevant UQ-Exeter Institute Theme Lead at their home institution to discuss your submission and its alignment with the partnership theme.
